Default SERPs

what's happening to the SERPs at the moment they appear to be all over the place.
my site is 1 day ranked 4th or 5th, the next day nowhere to be seen and the day after page 2 why the big changes?

keep in mind that Google often makes changes to the algorithms and that your competitors will be optimizing their sites also. Data center updates will also cause this to happen. Fluctuations tend to be stronger around PR update time too which is almost upon us

I think Google is switching algorithms frequently.

This happens all the time. It has a lot to do with what data center that you have landed at and the age of your website. Plus a whole lot of other stuff.

FYI

Google has started updating its SERP once a day. The google page will be updated daily. This is the reason. Just note, there will be a tag saying the Web site was updated 18 hours ago and so. This is the great move by Google.
