Default What't the best way to get search engine statistics on what people are searching for?

I have two websites I'm trying to market and sell ad space on. Where can I find statistics showing me how many people are searching for specific categories on Google, Yahoo, etc.? For example: Where do I find the number of people searching for Nashville Restaurants each day on search engines?

I have a local dining guide and a local internet coupon website. I'm trying to collect stats to take to potential advertisers?

If you want statistics on exact keywords, the use the AdWords Keyword Tool. It had a major update recently and it's killing it!

This article explains the update, how to use it, and how to do a good research using this tool:

As previously mentioned AdWords is very useful and lately they have added local search info that had not been previously available. This is great for local sites, but it is only an estimate.

try google trends - Google Trends this tool shows the search inquiry of a specific keyword in a given place (world wide, regions and cities) over the period of time.
