Default Which is better for SEO: subdomains or Rewritten Urls?

I'm keen to know which is generally better for search engine optimization..

This:

http://flowers.mydomain.com/

or:

http://www.mydomain.com/flowers

How are subdomain handled by search engines in general anyway?

Default help please with a php function/general regex help?

Subdomains are best.Especially if you have a domain that is linked to subdomains eg cars is the domain and then cars accessories,cars news, cars auctions etc the subdomains.Alos best to use anchor text and links to and from all pages

I think both are same and now it doesnt matter to advanced search engines as they use different algorithm for search.

Default how do i trace this php sql error?

Put it this way, what are 2 websites that are ALL OVER the top of the search engines? http://www.craigslist.net and http://www.ebay.com Both use subdomains.

Google has said that they treat subdomains as files but I have not seen evidence of this.
